Description of Seventh-Day Adventist Colleges in California

The Seventh-Day Adventist colleges in California vary slightly in size and provide students with a wide range of areas of study. In addition to academic growth, these schools promote spiritual growth through different activities. Learn more about the degree programs, spiritual growth opportunities and other distinguishing features of these schools.

La Sierra University

La Sierra University had about 1,825 undergraduate students in 2018, according to the NCES. The NCES also reported a student-to-faculty ratio of 12 to 1 for the school, and U.S. News & World Report included the institution in its list of Best Regional Universities West for 2019. Students at the university can pursue a wide range of undergraduate and/or graduate degree programs in fields such as archaeology, biomathematics, exercise science, pre-health, marketing, counseling and English. The university encourages spiritual growth in its students through weekly chapel and worship services, Connection Groups (small groups), Bible studies and outreach and missions opportunities. Students may also choose to participate in student organizations on campus, like Environmental Club, Robotics Club, Business Club, Latinos United of Nations Abroad (LUNA) or Pre-Medical Society.

Loma Linda University

Loma Linda University is a unique health-based institution that offers over 100 degree and certificate programs, mostly in health-related fields (per the school's website), and has a student-to-faculty ratio of 3 to 1, per the NCES. Students can pursue undergraduate and/or graduate degree programs in subjects like biology, clinical laboratory science, communication sciences and disorders, dentistry, health education, nursing and social work. Students can grow spiritually through weekly worship services, prayer events, Discipleship Groups (Bible study), ChapelCasts and service opportunities. The university also has a handful of student groups on campus, including the Black Health Professional Student Association (BHPSA), the Student National Medical Association (SNMA) and the Association of Latin American Students (ALAS). As of 2018, the NCES reported that the university had a little over 1,192 undergraduate students.

Pacific Union College

Students at Pacific Union College can pursue a master's degree in areas such as business or education, in addition to a range of undergraduate degree programs, including those in aviation, environmental studies, computer information systems, emergency management, music, biophysics and film. The college recognizes the Sabbath from Friday at sundown to Saturday at sundown and offers vespers, worship services, prayer sessions, Bible studies, Cell Groups and fellowship lunches to help students grow in their faith. Students may also choose to participate in various student groups on campus, such as Vietnamese Student Association, Bigs for Kids (B4K, educational outreach), Chemistry Club and Communications Club. In 2018, the college had close to 1,058 undergraduate students, according to the NCES. According to the school's website, the college has a student-to-faculty ratio of 12 to 1.
