Management information systems (MIS) directors oversee all technical aspects of an organization, including network security, software development, Internet and intranet operations. They often manage and direct the activities of other information technology personnel. Their responsibility is to ensure the continuity and security of all technological functions of the organization. They are also in charge of implementing new technology and maintaining standards of performance.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), computer and information systems managers were paid a median annual salary of $151,150 in May 2020. The largest mean salaries were earned in other information services with $205,510 annually.
Systems Analyst
Systems analysts plan and design computer systems for companies. They often work with other information technology employees to implement computer structures. They are in charge of buying computers, software and other tools. They work as part of a team and often report to the management information systems director.
The BLS reported the median yearly salary for systems analysts as $93,730 in May 2020. The oil and gas extraction industry paid the most for this position at a mean salary of $135,050. Aerospace product and parts manufacturing paid an average salary being $123,250.
Computer Network Architect
These are the professionals who design and set up large, complex computer systems, such as local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs) and other systems.
