Essential Information
Paramedic training programs are commonly available as certificate and associate's degree programs at 2-year schools in South Florida. Students are typically required to be certified EMTs before enrolling in paramedic programs, and some schools give current first responders priority for admission. Programs usually take three or four semesters and include classroom courses with hands-on field work, lab work and hospital work. Following satisfactory completion of a paramedic program, students are qualified to take the state and national paramedic licensing and certification examinations. National paramedic certification is available through the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT).
Broward College

New students begin the program by completing ambulance observations at hospitals. As they progress through the program, they work up to a full internship in the emergency medical setting. The program's coursework covers the human body, respiratory system, cardiac treatment, trauma and pharmacology
