University of Oregon
The University of Oregon in Eugene is the state's flagship institution of higher education. A teaching certificate is often called a teaching license in Oregon. Designed for current K-12 teachers, this program is for those who want to add to their knowledge. It focuses on cultural awareness and social science. It is one among many Master's teaching degree options offered.
George Fox University
Established in 1885 as the Friends Pacific Academy and located in Newberg, George Fox University is Oregon's oldest Christian university. The National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) accredits the School of Education, which houses teaching certificate programs. Earning a teaching certificate allows graduates to teach in private and public schools in Oregon and Idaho.
Preparing elementary education majors to work in early childhood and elementary education programs, the 4-year bachelor's degree program requires 62 credits and the passing of several examinations. Catering specifically to working adults, the adult B.S. program offers initial licensure with authorization in early childhood and elementary education. The master's degree program requires extensive field work.
