Description of the Online Southern Baptist Colleges

Students interested in pursuing online degree programs can enroll in Southern Baptist colleges in states like Texas and Florida. Students considering the different schools may wish to find out more about spiritual growth opportunities these schools offer, as well as degree program options. Here we discuss some of these factors and what makes these schools stand out from one another.

California Baptist University

According to the NCES, California Baptist University had close to 7,855 undergraduate students and 2,631 graduate students in 2018. The university offers more than 40 online bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree programs in areas such as Christian ministries, kinesiology, cybersecurity, public relations, education, business administration and psychology. According to Calfornia Baptist's website, the university's online programs and its flexible schedules allow students to finish their programs faster and save up to about $21,000 in tuition (when compared to the U.S. average for a 4-year public school). Online students can take advantage of the school's online chapel podcasts to deepen their faith.

Houston Baptist University

Houston Baptist University in Texas offers online bachelor's degree programs in areas like Biblical studies, psychology, management and theological studies, as well as master's degree programs in areas including education, Christian counseling, pastoral counseling, nursing and human resources management. Online class sizes are small, and the courses offer interactive learning opportunities and integrate faith for a holistic education. According to the university's website, the school offers some of the lowest tuition rates in the country. The university had about 2,321 undergraduates and about 1,111 graduate students in 2018, per the NCES.

North Greenville University

South Carolina's North Greenville University had about 2,319 undergraduate students and around 259 graduate students in 2018, according to the NCES. The university promotes a few online broadcasting programs to help students explore their faith, including Exploring the Word and Viral Truth. Students who are 22 years or older can pursue online undergraduate degree programs in Christian ministries, general studies, criminal justice, applied psychology, elementary educational studies or business and leadership. Although these programs are available online, some include hands-on experiences that students can complete in their local communities, such as ministry practica courses.

Campbellsville University

Campbellsville University's online students can stay connected to the institution and deepen their faith by listening to Campbellsville University Chapel Live and/or 88.7 FM-The Tiger, the Christian radio station owned by the university, online. Students can pursue a wide range of certificate, associate's, bachelor's or master's degree programs online in areas like mass communication, social work, pastoral ministries, theology, special education, sport management and Christian ministry. Undergraduate students who are active military are qualified to receive a reduced tuition rate for the online degree programs. In 2018, the NCES reported that this university in Kentucky had about 4,020 undergraduates and a little over 7,450 graduate students.

The Baptist College of Florida

The Baptist College of Florida had 448 undergraduates and about 19 graduate students in 2018, per the NCES. All coursework and programs at the college are also available online, including associate's, bachelor's or master's degree programs in areas such as music, English, ministry, Biblical studies, psychology, education and Christian studies. Online students participate in forum discussions, lectures and assignments and pay the same tuition per course as on-campus students. The college posts online chapel podcasts that distance students can utilize to help further develop their faith.
