These can be available as a stand-alone courses or as part of bachelor's or master's degrees or certificate programs. While most of the training programs require on-campus participation, there are fully online programs available in civil engineering.

Architecture Classes

Students interested in expanding their knowledge of architecture principles and design might want to consider taking online architecture classes. These classes may be offered as part of degree programs in the field or as standalone courses for self-enrichment purposes. Standalone courses may be available for free; however, these courses typically can't be transferred to colleges and universities for credit.

Assignments and examinations in free online architecture classes are self-administered and not usually required for participation. Many lectures in free online architecture courses were taped during actual on-campus classes. Courses available online often focus on architecture-related specialties, like construction law and building law.

Training Programs

Online programs in architecture are most common at the graduate level; however, some universities may offer them on the bachelor's degree level as well. Due to the hands-on nature of the field, programs may require in-person attendance in addition to online coursework. Online architecture programs on the graduate level may result in master's degrees or certificates in a number of specialized architecture areas. These programs are typically aimed at individuals already working in the architecture field.

Career Information

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), jobs for architects are expected to increase 1% from 2019-2029. The ongoing need for new buildings and residences, as well as for the renovation of existing structures, is expected to fuel this demand. As of May 2019, architects (except for landscape and naval) earned a median annual salary of $80,750, per the BLS. At the same time, the majority of architects were employed in the areas of architectural, engineering and related services (BLS).

A number of colleges and universities offer online instruction in the fundamentals of architecture design and principles, either as stand-alone classes or as part of larger bachelor's or master's degree programs.
