Typically, a diploma in motorcycle mechanics can be completed in three semesters. In addition to diploma options, there are certificate programs available as well. Prerequisites usually include a high school diploma or GED. Graduates often find work as motorcycle mechanics with independent garages or dealerships. Instruction in these programs combines hands-on shop experience with classes that focus on the major components of a motorcycle. Some courses include information on all-terrain vehicles (ATV) and how to diagnose and repair various ATV models. Students are often required to complete some business courses as well.

Previous work experience in the mechanic industry is preferred to get accepted into a program. A curriculum of a diploma program in motorcycle mechanics primarily focuses on motorcycle repair and the various systems of a motorcycle. Prospective motorcycle mechanics are now ready to pursue a certificate or the less common undergraduate degree in motorcycle mechanics and enter a career field expected to grow by 4% over the next decade.
