The smallest of the four public colleges and universities has a student-faculty ratio of 12:1 and offers specialized programs for legal assistants that include real-life work experience.

Alvin Community College

Alvin Community College (ACC) offers approximately 16 certificate and 40 associate degree programs to over 5,700 students each year, both on campus and online. Students can earn a certificate or an associate degree in office administration with an executive, a legal or a medical emphasis. Regardless of the program, all applicants must take the college's academic placement test and submit transcripts; first-time students meet with an advisor and attend an orientation session.

The 49-credit Administrative Support Certificate takes three semesters to complete and includes training in computer applications, keyboarding, office procedures and records management. The first three semesters of the AAS for Administrative Assistants mirror those found in the certificate program. During the final semester students complete general education courses in English, math and speech, as well as electives in the humanities and social sciences. To fulfill the requirements for the legal emphasis, students take two courses in legal terminology and word processing.
