Students can build skills in areas such as paralegal studies, technology, healthcare, public relations, and computers. Some programs offer students the opportunity to earn an undergraduate degree. University of Las Vegas - Nevada's Continuing Education Programs
UNLV's Educational Outreach division makes educational opportunities available to nontraditional students, including seniors, members of the military and working adults. Adult students can complete undergraduate degrees, earn business certificates, take computer classes and receive job training.
Certificate programs in basic or advanced print design are available to adult students without previous graphic design training. The advanced print design curriculum includes additional required courses in level-two Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, as well as 13 hours of electives or workshops.
Internet Design and Technology
This professional certificate program will help students to learn Web and multimedia design. Core courses cover, among other topics, HTML development, editing programs, online marketing and search engine optimization.
Paralegal and Paralegal Specialist
UNLV's Educational Outreach division includes a plethora of paralegal certificate programs, including a nurse paralegal certificate program. Some of these programs are offered online. Course topics include litigation, legal terminology, Nevada procedures, and contract law. The school's paralegal specialist certificates are offered online, in specialist areas such as administrative law, bankruptcy law, employment law, and family law. Courses are completed in four months, unless a written extension is allotted.
Professional Wine/Sommelier Certifications
UNLV offers a Sommelier Academy which is hosted at a Total Wine and More store in Henderson, Nevada. There is a Vine to Wine course, stressing wine fundamentals, meeting for seven hours a week, in a 14-week period. There is also an advanced sommelier program, a more intensive program on wine-making and wine regions with an emphasis on customer service skills are the primary areas of study.
Taught by professionally accredited public relations professionals, the public relations program consists of six core courses and four electives. Required courses include media relations, ethics and writing for public relations.
College of Southern Nevada's Continuing Education Programs
The College of Southern Nevada created the Division of Workforce and Economic Development to extend to adults in Las Vegas and the surrounding communities opportunities for personal and career growth through continuing education programs. Adult literacy, ESL and math preparation classes are offered.
The College of Southern Nevada's Division of Workforce and Economic Development offers a myriad of computer courses. The school's community & personal enrichment programs include computers 101 classes, on typing and other computer basics; Office software classes include different levels of expertise on programs like Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Quickbooks. The school's professional & skill development programs includes classes on computers on similar topics, in addition to classes for seniors.
Patient Care Dialysis Technician
Dialysis technicians are required to have national certification. This program, based on the standards of the National Association for Nephrology Technicians, prepares graduates to pass the certification exam. Courses include lecture classes, labs and practical clinical experiences.
Health Unit Coordinator
In this intensive 7-week course, students study medical terminology, communications strategies, patient transfer and interdepartmental coordination, among other topics. Clinical experience, in addition to lectures and labs, prepare graduates for the national certification exam.
Everest College's Continuing Education Programs
Everest College offers several diploma programs and associate's degree programs at their Henderson Campus. Their programs emphasis hands-on training and most programs offer small class sizes. Students also have access to Career Services to help prepare for their future.
This diploma program offers training in laboratory procedures, patient care, medical insurance, therapeutic care and more. Once the training program is completed, students are required to participate in an externship experience.
This associate's degree program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and graduates of the program are qualified to apply to take the NCLEX-RN (R) exam. Students in the program practice clinical skills and take courses in topics that include microbiology, nursing pharmacology, critical care nursing and more.
In this associate's degree program students study advertising, corporate accounting, management, finance and more to prepare for various careers in the business field. Throughout their coursework students are also required to apply their knowledge to real-life business situations.
