Landscaping Account Manager: Job Description and Requirements

Typically working in an office setting, a landscaping account manager oversees existing client accounts and new customer acquisitions for landscaping projects. They handle budgets, scheduling, and marketing, and they also ensure that all of a customer's requests are fulfilled by the on-site landscapers. Usually only a high school diploma is needed for this position, however in certain cases the completion of some college coursework or a degree is required.

Landscaping account managers are sometimes referred to as first-line supervisors of landscaping workers. In many ways, landscaping account managers act as liaisons between customers and landscaping workers. Customers will order services, make special requests, or file complaints with the accounts managers, and accounts managers must act accordingly to provide customers with needed services. While their landscaping teams are busy in the field, landscaping account managers often work in the office, either meeting clients, analyzing records, scheduling services, or monitoring budgets. These professionals may also be in charge of developing marketing strategies to drum up new business. Likewise, they must apply strategies for keeping current customers satisfied.

Since landscaping account managers are taking part in running businesses, many employers prefer workers who possess college degrees in such fields as agricultural business, horticulture, landscape architecture, or finance. The majority of employers also prefer job candidates who have experience in the landscaping field as well as a background in business or sales.

Landscaping account managers are responsible for interacting with a variety of individuals, including subordinates, supervisors, third-party vendors, and customers. Therefore, many firms prefer candidates with foreign language skills. Some firms might require candidates to be bilingual, so individuals who speak other languages, such as Spanish, may have an edge in the job market. The ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal English is also a requirement for landscaping account managers.
