While certification is not necessary for IT systems analysts, it may increase employment and advancement opportunities. Trade organizations, such as the Institute for Certification of Computing Professionals, offer certification programs. Corporate entities, such as Microsoft, also offer IT systems analyst certification programs specific to their product platforms. Though reputable and well-known, these are not the only organizations offering programs for those interested in becoming a certified information systems analyst. There are several information systems analyst certification programs to choose from, some at universities, some at colleges, and some at institutes. Students learn about development, database management, project management, and production and maintenance of systems. It requires nine credit hours. A bachelor's degree is required before pursing this certificate, and students must also apply to the graduate school for admission.
Certificate in Information Systems Technology Tidewater Community College Though more broad in scope, TCC offers a certificate in Information Systems Technology that covers networking, operating systems, software design and troubleshooting, to name a few. This program is usually completed in three semesters and requires 35 credits. The program prepares students for organization-specific certification, such as Microsoft, Oracle and CompTia.
Information Systems Analyst Graduate Certificate Bowie State University This program is aimed at professionals who already have a bachelor's degree and are looking to advance their career. Students learn how to assess the needs of a system and they learn about the communication between a functional unit and the computer operational unit within an organization. A total of 15 credit hours are required.
Systems Analysis Certificate UCLA Extension Students learn about the design and analysis of information systems in this program. Courses include software development fundamentals, Java programming and network communications. This program can be completed online or on campus.
Certified IT Professional (CITP) Institute for Certification of Computing Professionals (ICCP) ICCP offers training materials and courses to professionals in the IT field. Those seeking certification must apply for membership and take an exam for certification. This can be completed online and is typically more affordable than universities, though there are yearly membership fees required to keep certification.

Employment Outlook and Salary Information for Certified Systems Analysts

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) predicts employment opportunities for computer systems analysts will increase by 7% for the years 2019 through 2029 (www.bls.gov). The BLS also stated that the median annual salary for these workers was $90,920 in May 2019.

Certificate in Systems Analysis

Systems analysis certificate programs are usually tightly focused and cover only IT-related concepts, such as database creation and maintenance, systems design, data communications and programming languages. A certificate can often be completed in less than one year. Usually, applicants must have a bachelor's degree in an IT or business field, though some programs may not require it.
