California State University - Los Angeles (Cal State L.A.) is a 4-year, public university boasting a total student enrollment of nearly 28,100 students. The Department of Information Systems is one of six departments within the business college. Its information systems major contains two separate concentrations, including business systems and information technology. Students can also earn a master's degree in information systems.
The Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems with a concentration in information technology is an 186-credit-hour program, which includes 108 credit hours in core courses. In addition to general education requirements, students complete core courses in business finance, communications systems, management information systems, microeconomics, macroeconomics, economic statistics and marketing principles. The information technology concentration contains courses in Web design and development, Java programming, Internet security, local area networks, computer information systems and database technology.
In the Master of Science in Information Systems program, students will focus on computer hardware and software systems, communication technologies and organizational strategies in information technology. A Professional or Executive option can be chosen in this program. Students can also choose to pursue a postgraduate Certificate in Advanced Information Systems, which provides coursework in communication systems, design and analysis.
