Miami Dade College
To participate in the program, students must have completed the first responder courses and meet academic standards. Before starting the clinical segment, students must complete a criminal background check and submit their health records.
Emergency Medical Technician Certificate Program
The program can be completed in a single semester and classes are offered primarily in the evenings. The three classes in this program include lab work and a field experience segment. Successfully completing this program will qualify students to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) and Florida Bureau of Emergency Medical Services exams.
William T. McFatter Technical College
To participate in this program, students must be 18 years old, have a high school diploma or GED and may be required to pass the Test for Adult Basic Education. Prospective students will also need to pass a level-2 background check, medical exam and drug screening.
Emergency Medical Technician Program
The 250-hour program of study is offered in full-time and part-time schedules. Students learn through classroom theory and hands-on skill applications working with fire departments and in emergency room rotations. The program's goal is to prepare students to take the NREMT certification exam.
Broward College
To apply, students must have a high school diploma or GED. The school requires students in all health science programs to complete a background check and drug screening as well as submitting medical histories and results of a physical exam.
Emergency Medical Technician Applied Technology Diploma
This 12-credit program is the first segment of a three-tiered program that can conclude in an associate's degree for paramedics, but students aren't required to complete all three segments. The school encourages but doesn't require students to incorporate a general education class. The diploma segment includes four courses that include class work, lab practice and clinical experiences in hospitals and the field. Successfully completing the program qualifies students to take the Florida and national EMT exam.
