Georgia Colleges with EMT Training Programs
EMT training is available at technical colleges in Georgia at the basic, intermediate and paramedic levels. Programs may result in a certificate, diploma or associate's degree and prepare students to take the corresponding state certification exam to become a licensed EMT. Lower-level EMT training must be completed before students can start a higher level of training.

- At Central Georgia Technical College, students can enroll in intermediate or paramedic certificate and degree programs. The main campus is located about five miles from downtown Macon.
- Lanier Technical College's main campus is based in Oakwood, approximately 50 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta. The school offers three levels of EMT programs.

Central Georgia Technical College
Central Georgia Technical College is a 2-year community college serving 11 counties, including Baldwin, Monroe, Peach and Twiggs. EMT training is offered at its Macon and Warner Robins campuses.
Emergency Medical Responder/EMT/Prehospital EMS Operations Technical Certificate
The responder and EMT programs focus on basic information regarding emergency medical care. The responder program is an 11-hour course of study for 9th - 12th grade students and up, and it covers human body functions and medical terminology, as well as emergency responder responsibilities. In the EMT program, students take courses in airway management, EMT assessment, and shock and trauma and study practical and clinical applications of what they have learned. Completion of the course enables students to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians exam. Finally, the Prehospital EMS Operations certificate program covers more advanced concepts and patient care techniques for EMTs. This 26-hour program prepares students to take certification exams for advanced EMTs (AEMTs).
Paramedicine Diploma
Students applying to this program must have current EMT certification and a high school diploma. Paramedic-specific courses cover respiratory emergencies, trauma, cardiology, emergencies in maternal pediatrics and special patients. Along with coursework, students complete a number of clinicals. Students who finish the program can take the NREMT paramedic certification exam.
EMS Professions Diploma
Students can take this diploma program prior to pursuing advanced studies in paramedicine. The curriculum includes courses and labs in anatomy and physiology as well as introductory and advanced studies in patient and trauma care, special patient populations and clinical applications.
Associate of Applied Science in Paramedic Technology
This program includes courses specific to the paramedic profession as well as general education courses. Occupational courses include patient assessment, pathophysiology, applied physiology, respiratory emergencies, trauma and cardiology. The program also includes courses in microcomputers, math, anatomy, physiology, English and public speaking. Graduates can sit for the paramedic NREMT exam for certification.
Lanier Technical College
Lanier is part of the Technical College System of Georgia. It offers technical and career education programs leading to certificates, diplomas and associate's degrees. Credits from Lanier's EMT programs may be transferred to Gainesville State College's associate's and bachelor's programs.
EMT-Basic Certificate
This certificate introduces students to the EMT profession. They take courses in patient assessment, trauma emergencies and clinical and practical applications. Graduate can take the NREMT basic exam.
Advanced EMT Certificate
Students continue their EMT training beyond the basic level while pursuing this certificate. The program concentrates on advance life support. Graduates take the AEMT exam administered by the NREMT to become certified.
EMS Professions and Paramedicine Diplomas
The EMS Professions program consist of 42 hours of courses and experiences addressing medical terminology and introductory EMT topics such as duties and responsibilities and goes into more advanced courses and clinical studies. Some of the same courses are taken in the Paramedicine Diploma program, with an added focus on the fundamentals of paramedicine. This diploma program also includes a field internship.
Paramedicine Degree
A prerequisite of this degree program is EMT certification. Courses include general education credits in the humanities, behavioral and social sciences, math, natural science and public speaking. Paramedic-related courses include clinicals, special patients and medical emergencies, among other topics. Before applying for a position, graduates must pass the NREMT paramedic certification exam.
