Academics
At Durham Technical Community College, students can take classes to transfer to 4-year colleges or universities. Associate's degree and certificate programs offered at DTCC include business, management, marketing, computer and information sciences, construction trades, education, engineering, foreign languages and health professions. The school's Corporate and Continuing Education Department offers non-credit courses, including nursing assistant, notary public, bartending/mixology and interior design classes.
For extracurricular activities, students can participate in Student Senate, a literary organization, language clubs, entrepreneurship organizations and career clubs. A Small Business Center helps students and community members develop business skills or write a business plan. The school's location is commuter-friendly, and it features a medium-sized campus and diverse community.
Admissions
A high school diploma or GED certificate is required for all incoming students. Students who have an associate's degree can be admitted without proof of high school completion. Students must have their official transcripts sent to the school. Applicants can apply online, or a printed and signed application can be mailed directly to the main campus.
There are limited spaces in the health programs, such as health technology and nursing. Health technology students are required to take placement tests regardless of educational background. Students in these limited-enrollment programs must first be qualified, admitted and offered a seat in order to start classes.
To determine which college-level courses to take, DTCC encourages students to take placement exams. COMPASS, ASSET, SAT and ACT scores can be transferred in for credits, provided they were taken within five years from the date of application.
Tuition & Financial Aid
The cost to take a class at DTCC was $69 per credit hour for residents and $261 per credit hour for non-residents as of July 2012. Full-time resident students paid a maximum of $1,104 per semester for tuition, while non-resident students paid a maximum of $4,176 per semester. An additional student administrative fee of $46 was required. Estimated book costs for students taking 12-16 credit hours ranged from $500 to $650.
Financial aid is available to DTCC students. Students can complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to determine their eligibility.
