Customer insight analysts help businesses understand their clients. Their work involves determining how to gather relevant data about customers and potential consumers. They collect this information and break it down in a meaningful way. They may use the information they analyze to identify market trends or to find areas of need that aren't currently being met. Customer insight analysts provide reports to their company about sales trends and projections and areas for potential development.

They also need strong mathematical skills so that they can determine the level of demand or need for specific types of goods or assess statistical data to make projections about trends. They must be able to provide meaningful reports to other business departments so they need to have strong communication skills. They also need computer skills and may be required to know specific programs, such as Microsoft Office software, FileMaker Pro or Oracle PeopleSoft.

Customer insight analysts and market research analysts both assess data and use it to project sales trends. Customer insight analysts are grouped with market research analysts by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The BLS has reported that from 2020 to 2030, all market research analysts should see jobs grow by 22%. Glassdoor.com reports that in 2022, customer insight analysts earned an average annual salary of $81,171.
