The University of Pennsylvania started out in 1751 as the Charity School of Philadelphia and was founded on Benjamin Franklin's vision of a secular educational institution. Today, Penn has 12 schools, and serves just over 28,000 undergraduate and graduate students. Its computer science programs are offered through The School of Engineering and Applied Science.

At the undergraduate level, students can earn either a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE) in Computer Science or a Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Computer Science. Graduate degree possibilities include a master's computer and information science, which is also offered at the doctoral level.
