North Lake College

North Lake College is a 2-year public school located approximately 20 miles from Fort Worth. It enrolls more than 69,000 students and offers 24 associate's degree and 50 certificate and skills achievement programs. The Information Technology division offers an Associate in Applied Science in Computer Information Technology with a concentration in software programming and development, in addition to certificate and achievement awards programs in various programming areas.

In addition to general education courses, students in the Associate in Applied Science in Computer Information Technology - Software Programmer/Developer program learn one specialized programming language and one operating system. Classes focus on the basics of programming logic and design, networking technologies and databases. Students who do not wish to complete general education coursework can pursue the shorter 24- to 28-credit-hour Software Programmer/Developer Assistant Certificate, which covers business computer applications, computing, programming logic and project management software.

The 2-semester Programmer Level I Certificate program focuses on developing database structures and programming databases. Students complete 16 credit hours of study in classes such as advanced programming languages, Oracle programming, project management and program design. In addition, North Lake College offers a DBA Certificate, an Oracle Associate Skills Achievement Award and an Oracle Professional Skills Achievement Award. These programs can help students learn how to administer and program Oracle databases, as well as pursue professional certification.
