Description of Christian Architecture Schools

Typically offered at the bachelor's and/or master's degree levels, a variety of architecture programs are available at several Christian institutions. These Christian schools have varying student population sizes and also provide students with spiritual growth opportunities. Learn more about a handful of these schools and their architecture programs.

Judson University

Judson University in Illinois had 1,034 undergraduate students in 2018, per the NCES. The university offers a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Architecture and Master of Architecture (M.Arch) degree program. The B.A. program has small faculty-to-student ratios, extensive studio learning and trains students in technologies in the field. The M.Arch program requires a minimum of 1600-hour work internship or preceptorship. Students on campus can grow in their faith by attending weekly chapel services and small groups and/or participate in social justice programs and global outreach as well as service trips.

California Baptist University

California Baptist University offers a B.A. in Architecture and an M.Arch with available concentrations in Human Factors in Design, Religion and the Built Environment, Architectural Representation and Construction Management. Students in these programs participate in an international trip for 5 weeks to explore international architecture in countries like Italy. According to the NCES, the university had 7,855 undergraduate students in 2018. Students wishing to further develop their faith can participate in Tribes (missional communities), Discipleship Groups, chapel services and local and global mission trips.

Andrews University

Michigan's Andrews University had 1,702 undergraduate students in 2018, per the NCES. The university promotes spiritual growth in its students by offering various worship, service and fellowship activities through Grow Groups, Campus Ministries and Pioneer Memorial Church. The school offers a traditional Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Architecture, a Professional Master of Architecture 5-1/2 Year Track (B.S. in Architecture and M.Arch) and a Professional Master of Architecture 3-1/2 Year Track. Students in these programs gain hands-on experience in the field while serving the local community and may participate in the Architecture Missions Group to further tie in their faith with their education.

Marywood University

Marywood University in Pennsylvania places an emphasis on faith and service through its many local service opportunities, service trips and African Sisters Education Collaborative (ASEC), in addition to traditional Catholic worship services. Students interested in studying architecture can pursue a 5-year, professional Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch), 4-year, pre-professional Bachelor of Environmental Design in Architecture (B.E.D.A.) or 4-year, professional Bachelor of Interior Architecture (B.I.A.). Students in these programs have the opportunity to study abroad in Florence, Italy. The university had 1,934 undergraduate students in 2018, per the NCES.

Catholic University of America

Washington, D.C.'s Catholic University of America offers a unique array of architecture degree programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including a B.S. in Architecture, Architecture and Civil Engineering (B.S. Arch/B.C.E.), M.Arch and joint programs like Architecture and Sustainable Design or Architecture and Facilities Management. Students in these programs may choose to participate in different architecture-related travel-study programs across the globe to use international cities and the nation's capital as design laboratories. According to the NCES, the university had 3,332 undergraduate students in 2018. Spiritual life on campus includes Mass, community service opportunities, prayer and worship services and a variety of student ministry groups, like Catholic Athletes for Christ.
