Which is better: chemical engineering or materials science engineering?
Question:
Which is better: chemical engineering or materials science engineering?
Perfect School Search
Answer:
Chemical engineering is not better than materials science engineering or vice versa. They are both involved in the creation of materials to be used in the development of products that consumers and manufacturers use such as paper, plastic, and steel, and ceramics. If an individual is trying to decide which one is better for them to study or pursue as a career, they have to think about their interests and what they are excited about. For example, chemical engineering is better if the person has an interest in chemical processes and manufacturing processes and how they can be improved. Materials engineering is better if the person has an interest in the creation of materials such as plastics and metals and how these materials can be improved in terms of performance. If one wants to know which is better in terms of pay, a chemical engineer earns a median annual wage of approximately $105,550 as of May 2021 while a materials engineer earns $98,300 per year (www.bls.gov).
