Answer:

Carnegie Mellon University has three application plans for first-year applicants: early decision, regular decision, and early admission. Early decision has two deadlines of November 1st and January 2nd. Regular decision has a deadline of January 2nd, and early admission also has a deadline of January 2nd.

Early decision is a binding application process, meaning that students who apply for early decision and are accepted are expected to enroll at Carnegie Mellon. Once accepted, students must withdraw all active applications to other colleges or universities. Students who apply through this plan should not also have active early decision applications at any other institution.

Regular decision is the traditional application plan and is most common for first-year students. This application is non-binding and accepted students may make the decision whether or not they want to enroll after they receive their admission decision. This plan allows students to compare offers of admission (as well as financial aid) from several colleges and/or universities.

Finally, early admission is available for high school students who have not yet graduated but are eligible to take college courses.
