The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation offers graduate scholarship programs. The foundation's goal is to help more minority students earn Ph.D.'s in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. One of these scholarship programs is the Sloan Minority Ph.D. Program (MPHD). This program offers scholarships to students who are U.S. citizens and identify as African-American, Hispanic, or American Indian/Alaska Native. These students must be enrolled in doctoral degree programs in engineering, the physical and natural sciences, or mathematics at certain universities. Students can attend the following universities and be enrolled in one of the eligible fields of study to be considered for a scholarship:

  • Cornell University: Engineering, Agricultural & Life Sciences
  • Duke University: Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Statistical Science, Biomedical Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science
  • Georgia Institute of Technology: Engineering
  • Massachusetts Institute of Technology: Biological Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering & Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering
  • Penn State University: Science, Engineering, Agricultural Sciences, Earth & Mineral Sciences, Information Sciences and Technology, Human Development, Intercollege Graduate Degree Programs
  • University of California San Diego: Jacobs School of Engineering, The Graduate Division, Division of Physical Sciences
  • University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign: College of Engineering, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (Physical and Mathematical Sciences)
  • University of South Florida: Engineering, Marine Sciences
