Purdue Global Online offers a distance learning Associate of Applied Science in Veterinary Nursing (formerly Veterinary Technology). The program requires a total of 70 credit hours to complete consisting of the following: 46.5 credit hours of online didactic courses, 18.5 credit hours of clinical mentorship experience, 3 credit hours of an English composition course, and 2 credit hours of an elective. All clinical mentorship experiences are conducted in a veterinary health care facility. This program is designed to be taken on a part-time basis, and as such, will take longer than the usual 2-year associate degree. According to Purdue Global, the average time to complete this program is at 5.8 years.
Penn Foster College offers the following two programs: (1) Veterinary Technician Associate Degree, and (2) Veterinary Technology Bachelor of Applied Science Degree. Penn Foster's associate degree program takes four semesters to complete which includes two practicum experiences. This program is accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), which means that graduates are eligible to take the VTNE or Veterinary Technician National Examination and become a licensed veterinary technician. The bachelor's program is a completion program and is also fully accredited by AVMA.
