The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) offers the Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) certification exam for individuals who work as biomedical equipment technicians (BMET). To be eligible to sit for the CBET exam, BMET professionals must satisfy one of the following minimum eligibility requirements:

  • Possess an associate's degree or higher from a biomedical equipment technology program and complete at least two years of full-time work experience as a BMET
  • Complete a U.S. Military biomedical equipment technology program and two years of full-time work experience as a BMET
  • Possess an electronics technology associate's degree or higher and three years of full-time work experience as a BMET
  • Four years of full-time work experience as a BMET

Applicants who satisfy one of the minimum eligibility requirements must submit a CBET exam application and pay the application fee. The CBET certification exam is a 165 multiple-choice exam that takes approximately three hours to complete. The CBET certification exam is scored on a 165-point scale and test-takers must earn a minimum score of 116 points to pass the exam and earn CBET certification.
