The institute must ensure scholarships are given to students who are in need of them. The University of Kansas developed this methodology as a part of their program known as Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The students who apply under this program are generally analyzed based on their application regarding expected contribution the scholarship programs make for the completion of the student's education. This ensures that only need based awards are given out to the students. International students and unregistered students cannot apply for FAFSA. Also, if the student has a scholarship program for four years, they have to submit the FAFSA application each year to remain eligible. Students who become eligible for the scholarship are typically recorded in the University of Kansas's Student Need Analysis Worksheet for Financial Aid and Scholarships.
