Answer:

A certification exam is an assessment that measures if the person taking the test has the necessary skills, information, or ability to be certified in this particular area, and has met all of the requirements that the governing agency has deemed necessary to receive the certification. Every certification exam is different based on what exactly it is for. Some certification exams consist of demonstrating competence of any hands-on skills that may be necessary in the role that the individual will be taking. To work as an EMT, the state of California requires certification, by both passing an initial skills test in which one is observed completing various life-saving tasks that they may be required to complete on the job and continuing professional development courses. Teachers are required to have certifications within their specific state. In the state of Ohio, the certification exams are called the Ohio Assessments for Educators (OAE), and are proctored exams that consist of either written or multiple choice questions answered on a computer.
