Answer:

Any accredited college or university in the state of Florida can disburse funds to eligible students on behalf of the Bright Futures program. This includes state and local community or technical colleges as well as certain vocational schools or colleges. The program has four award levels as of the 2021-2022 school year. They are as follows:

  • Florida Academic Scholar (FAS) award, which provides 100% of tuition and fees at a Florida public college or university (equivalent to $212.00 per credit hour)
  • Florida Medallion Scholar (FMS) award, which provides 75% of tuition and fees at a Florida public college or university (equivalent to $153.00 per credit hour)
  • Gold Seal Vocational Scholars (GSV) award, which provides varying awards for technical certificate or degrees
  • Gold Seal CAPE Scholars (GSC) award, which provides varying awards for technical certificates or degrees

Students attending a private or independent college or university in the state of Florida can receive Bright Futures funds if they are eligible; however, the award amount is fixed and private school tuition is typically higher than that of public schools. To meet the gap between private and public school funding with the Bright Futures program, the state has created the Effective Access to Student Education (EASE) grant, which provides additional funds to FAS and FMS awardees who attend private or independent accredited colleges or universities in Florida.
