To be a registered professional nurse means that you have completed all of the requirements necessary to be a registered nurse in your state. Registered professional nurse (RPN) is another title used to describe registered nurses; this title is used in states like Vermont and New York. Registered professional nurses or registered nurses (RNs) are required to earn at least an Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN/ADN). Many of them go on to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). They must also pass the NCLEX-RN exam, which is the national certification exam and gain licensure in the state in which they plan to work. As part of your nursing license, you are required to complete continuing education courses as well as maintain employment in the healthcare field. Registered nurses can work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, schools, and physician's offices. Registered nurses may also specialize in a field, such as gynecology, internal medicine, or podiatry.
