Answer:

What you learn in an ethics class depends on the type of ethics class that you take. Generally, ethics is the study of how people should behave. Ethics is a complex topic with a myriad of philosophies and theories about the appropriate way to practice ethical behavior.

Depending on the college or university that you attend, you likely will have multiple options when selecting an ethics class. If you take an introductory class in ethics offered by the philosophy department, you will learn the basics of ethics. This likely will include an overview of topics such as deontology, utilitarianism, moral relativism, cultural relativism, egoism, virtue ethics, objectivism, and subjectivism. You also may learn about the four fundamental ethical principles, which are respect for autonomy, beneficence, nonmaleficence, and justice.

Most colleges and universities include a variety of classes on ethics. These may focus on ethics as applied to law, business, healthcare, government, and other areas of society, including religion and ethnic communities. Some classes also explore how ethics is practiced in different cultures and in other countries.

If you wish to take more than one class in ethics, you have the option of earning a certificate or degree in ethics. For more information about programs in ethics, check out this article: Ethics Degree and Certificate Programs
