The prerequisites for the Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) at Broward College include completing the following courses:
ENC 1101 English Composition
BSC 2085 and BSC 2085L Anatomy and Physiology I and Lab
BSC 2086 and BSC 2086L Anatomy and Physiology II and Lab
Students need to have a minimum of 2.5 GPA in these courses to be considered for admission. They may also need to take a general education Math course, Area 5, MAC 1105 in order to maximize their chances to be admitted. The Health Education Systems Incorporated (HESI) Admission Assessment (A2) is also required to determine students' eligibility and preparedness to complete the nursing program. Broward College requires applicants to take the following subjects in HESI A2 and have a substantial score:
Reading 80%
Vocabulary 80%
Grammar 80%
Math 80%
Anatomy & Physiology 80%
Evaluating candidates on these very important subjects allows the selection committee to assess their academic level, and a high score will give them a better chance to get accepted into the nursing program. A combination of GPA, core subjects and HESI A2 test scores constitute the main factors that determine applicants' admission into the nursing program at Broward College.
