Question:
Is working in day care considered part of the human services field?

Answer:
The Human Services Guide defines the human services field of work as the act of serving individual people, communities, or families as a whole so they can be at their best. While this field has a wide array of occupations that it can encompass, it most definitely would include that of a day care worker. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), characterizes childcare workers as those who strive to meet the needs of children in all hygienic and daily needs, as well as educational needs. Childcare workers are the ones who prepare children to start school and look after them while away from their parents. There can be many different settings for a day care worker, such as a home day care, day care centers, Early Start programs, or even as a nanny that works at the family's home. By definition, they are helping the family and children, which is really the key aspect of any human services career.
