How much does a Mississippi state trooper make a year?

According to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, the salary of a Mississippi state trooper varies depending on their rank and years of experience. A trainee officer's salary starts at $16,128 and has a maximum of $28,224. An officer with the highest designation of Highway Patrol Officer VII, on the other hand, has a starting salary of $57,680 and a maximum salary of $100,940, with the average being $61,594.

In order to be a state trooper in Mississippi, candidates must be at least 23 years old with a GED or high school diploma as their highest level of education, 21 years old with either 60 credit hours of college courses, a high school diploma and 4 years of active duty military service, 6 years of service in the national guard, or a high school diploma and one year of experience as a sworn law enforcement officer. Candidates must also have a valid driver's license.
