Answer:

According to the University of Richmond, one semester unit is equivalent to 3.5 semester hours. For most bachelor's degree programs, undergraduate students will need to take and successfully pass a total of 120 credit hours (which converts to approximately 34 semester units). In order to earn a bachelor's degree in 4 years, a student will need to take about 4 units (i.e., 15 credit hours) per semester. For individuals who would like to complete a bachelor's degree program at an accelerated rate, however, they can typically take up to 5.5 (about 19 credit hours) semester units or even more if they receive special permission from the appropriate staff (University of Richmond). On the other hand, students who are working part-time or even full-time jobs as they attend school may want to take on less of a course load each semester. Although going this route will mean that one will earn their bachelor's degree later than most of their peers, it is still a viable option for students with more-demanding schedules.
