Answer:

While there are several certifications available in nursing informatics, two of the main certifications are the ANCC Registered Nurse-Board Certified through the American Nurses Credentialing Center and the Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPIHMS) provided by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS). An HIMSS survey found that, in 2017, 27% of nurses surveyed held the ANCC Registered Nurse-Board Certified in Nursing Informatics. The HIMSS showed 6% of the Registered Nurses in their association held the CPHIMS certification, with 14% more who were planning to obtain the certification.

Working in nursing informatics can be beneficial to a registered nurse's career. Base salaries for those working in this area were reported in 2017, with 46% being over $100,000, 24% being between $86,000 and $100,000, and 25% being between $61,000 and $85,000 (HIMSS). When registered nurses with a nursing informatics certification were asked about their careers, 80% reported being highly satisfied with their choice (HIMSS, 2017).
