In the state of Michigan, the Concealed Pistol Law (CPL) class certificate is good for five years. The Concealed Pistol Law, made effective on the 1st of July 2001, requires finishing a pistol safety training course before being allowed to use a firearm. Such program can only be taken on MCOLES-Certified CPL Training Centers. The list can be found on Michigan Government's official website.
When your CPL is about to expire, you will be notified by your designated county clerk. Your renewal must be made at least six months before the expiration of your current certificate. The cost to renew the certificate in Michigan is $115, and this includes a statement certifying that you have completed at least three hours of review of the training required and at least an hour in the firing range within the last six months of the application. If you have already undergone the renewal process but still have not received your new license, you may carry the receipt of said renewal application and your expired license, and this will be considered as a valid CPL until you receive a new license or statutory disqualification.
