Answer:

Typically, it takes roughly one year to complete the requirements for a bookkeeping certificate. Bookkeeping certificates are offered by many two-year and four-year institutions, and in such a program, students will learn basic foundational bookkeeping skills that can qualify them for many actual positions as a bookkeeping. While some bookkeepers do not get a degree, it is preferred by employers that candidates for a job at least have experience in relevant academic coursework. For students who want to pursue more than a certificate, a two-year associate's or a four-year bachelor's degree in accounting also provide relevant academic coursework prerequisites for a successful career as a bookkeeper. Other certificates and/or credentials can pursued further to demonstrate skills within the job market. For example, the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers offers a certified bookkeeper credential recognizing those with at least two years of relevant professional experience, who also pass a four-part examination.
