How long it takes to become a teacher's aide depends on the certification which is determined by the state of employment. Once an interview happens, and an applicant is selected to be a teacher's aide then they usually need to fill out paperwork to be processed for a background check. This process may take several days or a few weeks depending upon the time of year. Then the Board of Education or Board of Supervisors usually must officially approve that person for employment. These meetings usually happen once or twice per month. From the time of an interview until the time that someone actually gets hired could easily be 30 days or longer depending upon the time of year.

Sometimes school districts will allow someone to start working as a teacher's aide as they are working on the approval process. Usually the background check must be completed prior to the first day of actual employment. Sometimes these requirements will be waived if the applicant has already worked in a school or is currently working as a substitute teacher as those steps have usually already been completed through that hiring process.
