Answer:

The length of time needed in order for individuals to become pharmacy assistants may vary depending on their employer's requirements. These individuals also need a high school diploma to become qualified for on-the-job training. The training also may include working under the supervision of experienced workers, and they may learn complex activities after mastering basic tasks. However, some pharmacy assistants enter postsecondary education programs that usually take 1 to 3 years to complete. There are 1-year programs that award certificates after completion and 2 to 3 years associate programs. These are available in vocational schools or community colleges recognized by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), which offers pharmacy technology courses. Coursework may include recordkeeping, pharmacy law and ethics, and methods of dispensing medications. Students may also be required to finish internships, which means that they will work as interns in pharmacies and related industries.

Some of the organizations that offer certification for this profession are the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification and the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) certification.
