How long does it take to become a nuclear engineer?
Question:
How long does it take to become a nuclear engineer?
Perfect School Search
Answer:
While there are entry-level positions in the nuclear engineering field with a minimum education requirement of a bachelor's degree, most employers require a master's degree or a Ph.D. A total of approximately 11 years of schooling may be required to become fully qualified for a career as a nuclear engineer (4-year bachelor's, 2-year master's, 6-year Ph.D.). Many universities offer dual bachelor/master degree programs to reduce the amount of time required for a graduate degree.
Undergraduate students studying engineering will learn through lectures and experiments in courses such as engineering principles and mathematics, while graduate students are primarily focused on conducting research and writing up their findings in academic journals. Engineering programs are accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). According to ABET, there are 28 nuclear engineering programs currently offered in the U.S.
