According to U.S. News and World Report, San Diego State University (SDSU) is more selective with admissions and has an acceptance rate of just 37%. Half of admitted applicants score 1090-1300 on the SAT or 22-29 on the ACT.

The SDSU website notes that they have a competitive applicant pool and admitted students have a high school GPA of 3.65-4.03. Potential students must complete 15 units of college preparatory courses with a C- grade or better before enrolling at SDSU. Students are encouraged to take AP, honors, or IB classes in high school.

SDSU is also serious about preparation for indicated area of study and students must choose a major which are competitive and have more applicants than spots available.

Other factors that admissions consider include whether the student has overcome hardship in life, is involved in college preparatory programs, or attends high school in the local admission area in part of Sand Diego County or Imperial County.
