Law Enforcement Agencies Data Systems (LEADS) Certification has two levels, Less Than Full Access Certification and Full Access Certification. The first one is a two hour course, the second one a four hour course. The courses teach varying levels of information about managing and using law enforcement databases. LEADS certification is valid for two years, before which an applicant can take a re-certification course to maintain certification. If someone who does not have certification accesses LEADS then that will cause the agency they accessed that information from to loose access to LEADS. A person can only be registered for this certification through their LEADS Agency Coordinator. Certification can only be achieved by someone who is employed by an agency that has access to LEADS. A LEADS Agency Coordinator will decide what level of certification is appropriate for individuals that they are attempting to certify.
