Question:

How do you get an IB certificate in teaching and learning?

Answer:

The International Baccalaureate offers two educator certifications: IB certificate in teaching and learning, and IB advanced certificate in teaching and learning research. Both are conferred upon successful completion of an IB certification program. There are only six colleges and universities in the United States offering IB certification programs, and only sixteen institutions worldwide; because of this, many of these institutions will offer their certification programs online. The certification programs are made up of workshops that orient teachers to the International Baccalaureate program, and to teaching strategies they can use to implement instruction clearly and effectively. Even after the initial certification program workshops are completed, IB-certified teachers are expected to continue taking IB workshops throughout their teaching career to keep certification (and thus IB course teaching practices) up to date.

In order to be eligible for enrollment in an IB certification program, candidates must possess a valid teaching license/certification, as well as a graduate degree in the career subject area. Eligibility is also contingent upon completion of three years of classroom teaching.
