Answer:

To get a National Interpreter Certification (NIC) you will need to be at least 18 years old. For hearing candidates, the educational requirement is to hold a bachelor's degree in any field. For deaf applicants, the educational requirement is to have at least an associate's degree in any field. The Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) requires their applicants to take and pass two proficiency exams to get this certification. The first exam is the NIC Knowledge Test. This is a written exam constituted by 150 multiple-choice questions. The second examination is the Interview and Performance Exam. This exam is complete through a computer with recorded videos. It is designed to evaluate applicants' interpreting performance. To take the Interview and Performance Exam, you will first need to successfully complete the Knowledge Test. It is important to notice that you will have five years to complete these exams to get your NIC certification.
