In Texas, there are three levels of teachers' aides or educational aides, and they each have their own requirements.

Educational Aide I

  • Have a high school diploma or GED
  • Have work experience involving students and parents (youth camps, private schools, daycare, etc.)

Educational Aide II

  • Have a high school diploma or GED
  • Have work experience involving students and parents
  • Have one of the following --
    • Two years of experience as an Educational Aide I
    • 15 or more semester college credit hours in areas related to child growth and development
    • Aptitude in a specialized skill area as defined by a school district

Educational Aide III

  • Have a high school diploma or GED
  • Have work experience involving students and parents
  • Have one of the following --
    • Three years of experience as an Educational Aide I or II
    • 30 or more semester college credit hours in areas related to child growth and development

Additionally, to get an Educational Aide certificate, you have to first be employed at a school district.
