Answer:

To become a marriage mediator, an individual will need to complete a training and become qualified as a certified mediator, according to the National Association of Certified Mediators.

A certification is really the only requirement as well as experience and a desire to help individuals come to a mutual agreement in their marriage or divorce. A degree is not required, as a mediator is not a lawyer or a judge, but it may be helpful in proving the qualifications to potential clients.

There are several online courses available, approximately 30-40 hours in length to help individuals obtain their certification. Depending on the program and the state where the individual will practice, additional education may be required but is typically only encouraged.

A marriage mediator can expect to utilize their training to solve problems between a married couple. The couple will often come in because they wish to stay married, but they need the help of a third party to aid in resolving their conflicts to avoid the possibility of divorce.
