To renew a license in social work in Pennsylvania, you must sign in to your account at www.pals.pa.gov. From there, select the State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, and Professional Counselors to renew. Plain-language questions will appear to help begin the process. There will be an application checklist that will guide you through the renewal process including what documentation needed to renew the license. Renewal forms are available 45-90 days before a license expires. The dates for renewal are March 1st to February 28th on odd years. The social work license must renew every two years at a cost of $95. It takes about three calendar days for renewed social work license to be issued.
Licensed social workers in Pennsylvania must have a minimum of a master's degree in social work or social welfare from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited school. They must also pass the Association of Social Work (ASWB) Master's Examination.
