Answer:
In the state of Florida to obtain a Child Development Associate (CDA) certification, you will need to go through the Council for Professional Recognition. The Council for Professional Recognition offers four CDA certifications: Center-Based Preschool, Center-Based Infant-Toddler, Family Child Care, and Home Visitor. The four certifications are divided by the work that you do with children. The Center-Based Preschool CDA certification is for a candidate that works with children ages 3 to 5 in a group setting of eight or more children. The Center-Based Infant-Toddler CDA certification is for a candidate that works with children ages birth to 36 months in groups of at least three children. The Family Child Care CDA certification is for a candidate who works with at least two children that are ages 5 and older. The Home Visitor CDA certification is for candidates that go into the home to work with children ages birth to 5 years old. Each certification requires the completion of 120 hours of early childhood education training, though each category outline specific subject hours that are required. You will also be required to complete 480 hours of work experience with in three years of submitting the application. Within six months of application you will need to complete your CDA Professional portfolio. After completing your application, you will need to set up an appointment to demonstrate your skills. The Council will then review your results and determine if you will receive your CDA certification.
