Answer:

A PICC line is a peripherally inserted central catheter. A PICC line is a long thin tube that is inserted through the vein in your arm and is passed through to larger veins near the heart. A PICC line may be inserted by physicians, physician assistants, APNs, RNs who have completed a competency, and radiology technicians who have PICC line insertion included in their scope of practice. In order to receive a PICC Qualification also called a PICC Certification specific classroom training must be completed, completion of specified practice on mannequins, and then the completion of three or more live insertions and competency validation.
