Answer:

Once you graduate with a degree that meets the BCSP Qualified Academic Program (QAP) standards you can look into getting your Graduate Safety Practioner (GSP) designation. Something important to mention is that the GSP is not actually a certification. It is an alternative path to be a Certified Safety Professional (CSP). There are several reasons you would want to become a GSP, such as:

  • Recognition for being on a path toward the CSP certification
  • Recognition for the level of preparation for professional safety practice
  • There is no GSP application fee
  • A waiver of the ASP examination requirement for CSP eligibility
  • A certificate awarding the GSP designation
  • Inclusion in the BCSP Credential Holder Directory and a digital badge
  • Access to the BCSP Career Center

If you are graduating from a QAP you can apply for the GSP within your program's "applicable dates". You can also apply to the BCSP website. Once you have been awarded your GSP you must take and pass your CSP exam within six years of obtaining the GSP. You will also need to pay an annual renewal fee to keep your GSP before you get your CSP. Your CSP will also require an annual fee.
