There is not one, national certifying body for barre class instruction in the United States. Instead, you can be certified through a variety of barre programs. Each certification requirement will be different depending on the franchise/program through which you complete it. Program requirements vary wildly. Some can be completed through 1- or 2-day intensive workshop, while others require up to a year of barre course participation. All of the programs require some form of payment and, because these are not academic programs, you are not eligible for any financial aid or scholarships. Costs vary, but can run more than $1,000 for certification. When considering which program in which to become certified, look at the number of studios, number of certified trainers, and the estimated number of classes you can teach in a given pay period. That will help you understand if becoming certified is financially viable for you.
